Should You Add Drone Photography Coverage to Your Wedding?

Updated: May 19

If you're planning a wedding in a stunning location, whether it's a mountaintop, a historic villa, or a serene lakeside estate; you're probably already dreaming about how your photos will capture the setting. One way to take those visuals to the next level? Drone wedding photography.

The good news: if we're working together, there's no extra charge for drone footage. But there are a few things to keep in mind to make the most of it; starting with thoughtful planning.

What Can a Drone Capture on Your Wedding Day?

Drone coverage adds a cinematic, storytelling layer to your wedding gallery. It offers a bird’s eye perspective that’s impossible to capture from the ground, and helps tell the full story of your day, from setting to celebration.

Here are some of the most beautiful and creative drone wedding photography ideas:

1. Venue B-Roll and Scenic Shots

Imagine sweeping aerial footage of your venue nestled in the landscape. Whether that’s vineyards in Tuscany, cliffs in Ireland, or the Swiss Alps. These cinematic shots set the scene in a breathtaking way.

2. Bridal Portraits

For couples who want something a little different, drone portraits can add an ethereal, editorial touch. Think of you walking hand-in-hand through a field or standing on a rocky outcrop with your veil catching the wind.

3. Group Photos

Overhead group photos can be a fun and artistic way to capture everyone who came to celebrate. Especially effective at destination weddings or outdoor venues.

4. Outdoor Ceremony Moments

Drones can capture the full layout and emotion of your ceremony, from your aisle walk to the confetti toss, as a sweeping aerial view.

Works Beautifully in Every Season

One of the best things about drone wedding coverage? It works year-round.

In spring and summer, we can highlight lush green landscapes, outdoor receptions, and golden hour portraits. In autumn, it captures the rich colors of changing leaves and romantic countryside venues. And in winter, drone shots of snowy mountaintops, icy lakes, or cozy chalets can turn your celebration into something out of a fairytale.

No matter the season, drone photography helps bring the atmosphere and setting of your day to life in a vivid and cinematic way.

A Few Things to Consider

While drone footage doesn’t come with an extra cost when you book with me, it does require a bit of planning.

  • Timeline Coordination: We’ll need to carve out time in the day to use the drone. Usually during quieter moments when lighting and conditions are ideal.

  • Weather & Location Dependent: Drones are best used outdoors and only fly in certain conditions (no high winds or rain).

  • Venue & Airspace Restrictions: Not all locations allow drone flights. Some areas, especially near airports, national parks, or private properties, have restrictions or require special permits. We’ll always check the rules ahead of time to make sure it’s allowed.

  • Second Shooter Support: For larger or more logistically complex days, a second shooter may be needed so we can capture drone footage without missing any key moments on the ground.

So, is Drone Coverage Worth It?

If you're celebrating in a visually stunning location and want your wedding gallery to have a cinematic, editorial edge, drone wedding photography is absolutely worth considering. It adds a layer of storytelling and artistry that helps you relive not just the emotions, but the full sense of place.
