Planning a wedding in Switzerland? With so many beautiful places and different options it can be a little overwhelming to settle on one a location!
A landlocked country in Europe, Switzerland is home to magical mountains (I think everyone knows the Swiss Alps!), stunning lakes, and beautiful old towns. All of these provide a breathtaking backdrop for your Switzerland wedding celebration.
I have put together a guide with some different examples of these Switzerland locations. Let me know what you think!
Charming cities and old towns in Switzerland
Switzerland has no shortage of romantic old cities and towns. A particular favourite of mine is Zurich. With stunning architecture of old churches, a charming old town, and located right on Lake Zurich, you really can't go wrong with this location.
Zurich has multiple beautiful hotels, restaurants and other venues to host your Swiss wedding. A photoshoot in the old town or on Münster Bridge (Münsterbrücke) with views of the famous Grossmünster Church, followed by a boat ride on Lake Zurich are sure to make your wedding a special and memorable event!
Lake regions in Switzerland
Another amazing option is the multiple lakes located in Switzerland. Lake Geneva is situated in the French part of Switzerland and hosts many magical towns, wineries, and locations for your Switzerland wedding.
Some larger cities and towns located here are Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux and Nyon. There are also so many smaller towns as well just as Morges and Saint Prex that are simply stunning.
Both Morges and Saint Prex have charming old towns and churches, and are located directly on Lake Geneva.
This stunning wedding took place at the Manoir de Saint-Prex located on Lake Geneva.
The state of Ticino is another great option if you're looking for a more Italian/tropical feel. There are beautiful lakes and sceneries to host your wedding. Some locations are: Brissago, Lugano, Morcote, Locarno. There are so many smaller locations as well and airbnbs to rent.
This fabulous wedding look place in Brissago on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Read more on that wedding here.
Lugano, nestled in the heart of the Swiss Italian region, emerges as a captivating wedding destination that effortlessly combines sophistication with natural beauty. The city, situated on the shores of Lake Lugano and surrounded by lush mountains, offers a picturesque setting for romantic celebrations. With its Mediterranean flair, Lugano provides a unique charm, showcasing elegant lakeside promenades, charming squares, and vibrant botanical gardens. The city's blend of Swiss precision and Italian warmth creates a delightful atmosphere for weddings. Couples seeking a luxurious and serene venue can find solace in the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, a historic lakeside property. The hotel's timeless elegance, impeccable service, and lush gardens provide an enchanting backdrop for a dream wedding in Lugano. With its seamless fusion of sophistication and natural allure, Lugano stands as a remarkable destination for couples desiring a celebration surrounded by beauty and tranquility.
Luzern
Luzern, with its captivating blend of history, culture, and stunning lakeside views, emerges as a splendid wedding destination that seamlessly marries tradition with modern elegance. The city's medieval architecture, exemplified by the iconic Chapel Bridge and Water Tower, provides a romantic backdrop for ceremonies and photographs. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains add a touch of natural grandeur to the festivities. For those seeking a touch of luxury and exclusivity, Hotel Villa Honegg, perched high above Lake Lucerne, offers an exceptional venue. With its panoramic views, exquisite amenities, and a serene atmosphere, the hotel provides an intimate and opulent setting for weddings. The combination of Luzern's historic charm and the refined ambiance of Hotel Villa Honegg makes it an enchanting choice for couples looking to create unforgettable memories on their special day. The Swiss Alps - a Mountain Wedding in Switzerland
The Swiss Alps are world famous and contain many magical regions and areas all over the country. Here I will focus on two: the state of Graubünden and the area of Bernese Oberland.
Graubünden
The largest state in Switzerland (land-wise), Graubünden is not as widely known internationally. However, it is a favourite among locals for its stunning mountains and charming towns. Perhaps the most famous locations here are Davos and St. Moritz.
Located high up in the Swiss Alps in the canton of Graubünden, Lenzerheide is one of Switzerland's hidden gems. It is a beautiful little town located in a valley surrounded by majestic mountains on either side. The views are stunning no matter which direction you turn, so there are unlimited options for your wedding or engagement photoshoot.

Another favourite of mine, is the quaint small town of Bergün. Bergün can be reached by train on the famous Bernina Express line, which travels from Chur to St. Moritz and winds through the mountains of Graubünden. Bergün has beautiful mountain views, charming old houses, and a stunning venue in Kurhaus Bergün to host your Swiss mountain wedding.

Muottas Muragl is an amazing option as well. Located high up in the mountains, this stunning location is reached by taking a funicular up the mountain side.
Bernese Oberland
Perhaps the most famous area in the Swiss Alps is Bernese Oberland. Famous for a reason, this area contains the magical towns of Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen.
With stunning views every direction you look, this region is always a great choice for your Switzerland wedding. Each town has different mountain views, but no shortage of amazing gondola and chair lift rides, old towns, and amazing restaurants and hotels to host your wedding.

Always a great choice, is the town of Wengen. Located in the alps above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Wengen showcases majestic views of Lauterbrunnen below and the stunning cliffs of the mountains surrounding it.
Another well known area is Lauterbrunnen and Mürren. These areas are well known for a reason - they are absolutely stunning! Lauterbrunnen is quite busy, so be prepared to deal with some crowds depending on the time of year. See more here.
Zermatt
Zermatt, nestled in the Swiss Alps, stands as an enchanting wedding destination, captivating couples with its unparalleled natural beauty and romantic charm. Surrounded by majestic peaks, including the iconic Matterhorn, the picturesque landscapes create a breathtaking backdrop for exchanging vows. The quaint village exudes a timeless charm with its car-free streets and traditional Swiss architecture, providing an intimate and serene atmosphere for couples and their guests. Zermatt offers a seamless blend of luxury amenities and alpine simplicity, making it an ideal location for a romantic celebration. The abundance of outdoor activities, from scenic hikes to skiing adventures, ensures that couples and their guests can create cherished memories against the stunning alpine panorama. Zermatt's allure lies not only in its scenic splendor but also in the sense of seclusion and romance it imparts, making it a truly magical destination for couples embarking on their journey into marriage.
